108 The use of plastic in everything from drinks straws to inflatable toys for the pool has become an environmental hot topic. The oceans are full of microplastics, small pieces of plastic debris that may be affecting the health of marine life as well as that of humans.

Look at the following points and address the questions raised. Write an essay that offers your perspective on this worldwide issue. You may address the issues in any order you wish.

A. How serious do you feel the widespread use of plastic is? Should mankind be genuinely concerned about the impacts on the global environment or has the issue been exaggerated?
B. What steps do you feel should be taken to change mankind’s reliance on this product? Offer suggestions on what you feel are the realistic alternatives to plastic in a range of areas. Give your insights on how this may affect global economic activity.
C. Finally, do you feel that the current generation has a responsibility to make lifestyle changes in order to protect the quality of life and environment for future generations? How far would you be willing to go in making the changes necessary to remove mankind’s reliance on plastic?

 These days we are facing accelerating change in an era being formed by Artificial Intelligence. The world we are living in is a platform for humanity and technology. Look at the following issues and address the questions raised. Write an essay to offer perspectives from you as a teenager living inside the tech world. You may randomize the order of the issues when organizing your writing.

A.In a changing market, do you think that traditional cameras have been made obsolete by smartphones? And what can be the concerns involved?

B.An algorithm is a set of rules that computers use to program technological systems. In this sense, some people are afraid that computers are not objective because they will reflect the views of the creators of algorithm. This can raise another problem: what if these creators do not have adequate awareness of social issues to make computers perform good tasks?

C.An increasing number of psychologists have written that smartphones have caused damage in mental health of teenagers because of smartphone addiction. Most teenagers tend to compulsively check texts and consume news too quickly. Will social media addiction constitute a mental disorder?

Imagine that you had helped an alien. To return your favor, he offered a chance for you to take a magic pill that could grant a human being some superpower. However, the superpower would come at a price. Below are the pills for you to choose from and their effects:
Pill A: You would become the smartest person, but with all your hair gone.
Pill B: You would be able to fly, but then you needed to sleep up to 14 hours a day.
Pill C: You would have the strength of thirty lions, but you were going to lose the ability to use and understand English.
Which one would you choose? What were you going to do with the benefit of the pill? How would you deal with its negative effect?

If you think you would not take any of these pills, explain why they do not appeal to you.
